Yvonne Blanchon (1884-1975) Flowering Trees, c.1930, oil on panel, signed lower left, 33 x 24 cm. Yvonne Blanchon studio stamp on the reverse.

Yvonne Blanchon, born in Cosne-sur-Loire (Nièvre) on December 25, 1884 and died on January 30, 1975 in Évecquemont (Yvelines), was a French painter and watercolorist.
A student of Mathilde Delattre and Marthe Bougleux, she devoted herself to still lifes and landscapes, evolving towards an "Art Deco" style. She won the City of Paris drawing prize in 1922 and exhibited from 1923 to 1949. She received a bronze medal at the Salon des Amis des Arts de Seine-et-Oise in 1936. A member of the Salon des Artistes Français, she won the Valérie Havard still life prize there in 1939 and an honorable mention in 1941.
She exhibited several times at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants. She was a friend of the painter Louise Alix (1884-1960), a student of the same masters, who painted her portrait in 1920.
The two painters produced canvases of very similar inspiration depicting the Batignolles district, observed from the heights of the same building: for example, "A Place des Batignolles by Miss Yvonne Blanchon, interpreted with humor" at the Salon of 1926, themes revisited in 1927 and 1930. In 1923 and again in 1935, Yvonne Blanchon lived at 70 rue des Batignolles, where Louise Alix painted her painting "Marriage in the 17th Arrondissement," exhibited in 1937 at the Salon des Indépendants.
Blanchon also painted landscapes in Brittany.
In 1926, Yvonne Blanchon resided at 59 avenue de La Bourdonnais (Paris 7th arrondissement) at the time of her marriage to Sören Villekold, a Danish factory manager who was also a painter (Louise Alix was a witness at the wedding). She lost her French nationality following this marriage to a foreigner but was reinstated in 1936. She was then living in Villenes-sur-Seine (Yvelines). They divorced in 1949.
She died on January 30, 1975 in Évecquemont, near Les Mureaux, in the Yvelines, at the age of 80.
A significant collection of works by Yvonne Blanchon, Louise Alix and Jeanne Alix was discovered in 2023 in the attic of a house in western France.
