Contrary to popular belief, this piece is not a 19th-century production, but a contemporary work created between 1970 and 1985. It testifies to the revival of tapestry art in Aubusson during the 20th century, championed by talented local artists such as François Faureau (1902-1995), a native of the town.
Artistic qualities: The scene depicts a lively rural harvest scene with a vivid narrative. The collective work around the winepress is highlighted by a rich composition where men, women, and children participate in the grape harvest, a symbol of abundance.
The weaving is distinguished by a vibrant color palette, dominated by a characteristic deep blue. The attention to detail in the costumes and expressions of the figures brings remarkable movement to this genre scene. The tapestry is framed by a delicate floral design that enhances its elegance.
Authenticity and Conservation: This tapestry is an authentic piece by François Faureau. It has undergone complete restoration in our workshop and is ready to hang.
A true collector's item, it will bring a touch of history and character to any interior, whether classic or contemporary.
