"Napoleon III Donkey-back Desk, Louis XV Style Cylinder Secretary"
A superb and elegant Napoleon III slant-front desk in wood. It rests on four cabriole legs connected by shaped stretchers on the sides. The front opens with a wide, curved, and shaped drawer adorned with gilt and chased bronze stringing. The central section opens with a drop-front and a sliding cylinder, revealing three drawers and a felt-lined top. The cylinder is decorated with a gallant scene. Above this is a set of three drawers topped with marble and encircled by a bronze gallery. The entire piece is adorned with bronze mounts, drops, foliage, and finely chased stringing. Signs of wear consistent with its age.
