Carved And Gilded Wooden Frame, Louis XVI Period
A carved and gilded wooden frame, rectangular in shape with an oval front. The composition features a regular decoration of beaded friezes, scrolls, and foliage, with an openwork pediment centered by a floral motif. The uprights are punctuated by gadrooned moldings and lateral scrolls. The bottom of the frame is adorned with a projecting carved element, continuing the upper decoration. The whole rests on an assembled wooden structure. The old gilding shows visible wear, losses, and repairs, consistent with the age of the object. Staples have been added at some point to reinforce certain parts of the frame. Dimensions: H. 58 cm × W. 31 cm
