Side Table, Belarti Edition, Julien De Covemaeker (1927-2008) - Belgium Circa 1960

Here is a lovely side table or end table made of glazed ceramic tiles and black lacquered metal. It is a piece by the Belgian ceramist Julien de Covemaeker, from his workshop in Ostend. This table, dating from the early 1960s, is signed and produced by the company "Juliette Belarti," a contraction of "Belgique Artistique" (Artistic Belgium). The company was active between approximately 1960 and 1965. This is a high-quality piece in very good original condition. The tabletop features a beautiful abstract composition, very representative of the period. The tiles are all hand-painted. It rests on an ornate metal base that provides storage for newspapers, magazines, or books.
