Christophe Gabriel Allegrain (1710-1795) was a French sculptor whose most famous sculpture, Venus at the Bath, in marble and life-size, is now on display at the Louvre Museum.
Commissioned by the Marquis de Marigny for the Château de Choisy, the marble sculpture was exhibited at the Salon of 1767 and received widespread admiration, launching Allegrain's reputation.
In 1838, the renowned foundry Barbedienne partnered with Achille Collas (1795-1859) – the inventor of the mechanical reduction process for sculptures – with for example this model.
