Pair of majestic Italian Baroque architectural columns from the 17th century
A rare and captivating pair of structural columns dating back to 17th-century Italy, originally designed as prestigious architectural elements and now perfectly suited for creating a monumental bookcase, a display cabinet, or a striking decorative installation.
Crafted from solid wood, entirely hand-lacquered with an original period dark grey-green ground and richly embellished with authentic gold and silver leaf, beautifully preserved. The surfaces boast a noble, aged patina, featuring exquisite carved and gilded details: sophisticated molded capitals and bases adorned with bead-and-reel motifs, foliate scrolls, elegant volutes, and a refined central mascaron depicting a winged cherub’s face on each pedestal.
Their imposing proportions (overall height estimated around 240-260 cm based on images, base width approx. 50-60 cm) and exceptional craftsmanship make them a unique collector’s piece, ideal for classical, Baroque, or eclectic interiors. Good original condition with authentic signs of age that enhance their genuine antique appeal.
A museum-quality item or statement piece for an important residence – exceptionally rare to find examples retaining their original lacquer and precious metal leaf intact after more than three centuries.
