He was a student of Alexandre Falguière, from whom he inherited academic rigor, while also developing a sensibility characteristic of Symbolism and later Art Nouveau. His works are distinguished by female figures, sometimes allegorical, expressing grace, melancholy, or the awakening of the senses.
