"Roger Dubut (1890-1960), Haymaking In Périgord, Oil On Panel "
A rare oil on panel depicting haymaking, a scene of rural life in the Périgord region between 1920 and 1940. The work features nuanced colors for the landscape and vibrant hues for the figures. The oil painting has a somewhat naive style, as is often the case with Roger Dubut's work. This painting is signed lower left by Roger Dubut (1890-1960), a painter originally from Saint Laurent sur Ménoire near Périgueux. A self-taught artist, he pursued a career in the army and, during his travels, captured numerous landscapes and Orientalist scenes on canvas. He was a member of the Société des Artistes Français and the Société des Beaux-Arts d'Outre-Mer, and received the Bernheim de Villers Prize in 1958. He was also a Périgord painter who produced numerous works featuring landscapes and monuments of the region; however, scenes of rural life like the one in this painting are rare. He died on September 28, 1960, in La Prade, Monsec, in the canton of Mareuil-sur-Belle, where he lived.
The painting is in good condition, cleaned, and comes with its original frame.
