"Sabino Lamp, Ondulations Model"
This molded glass vase, mounted as a lamp, dates from 1930 (listed in that year's catalog under number 7046). It is named "Ondulations" (Waves) due to an elegant frieze of waves running across the vase's body. The lamp mount is quite old, with an aluminum ring and bayonet socket, but the original fabric-covered electrical cord has been replaced with a more secure, plastic-sheathed one. The vase is engraved with the signature "Sabino France" on the underside. Its beautiful, subtle gray and green color is undoubtedly intended to evoke the color of the sea. Marius Ernest Sabino was born in 1878 in Acireale, Sicily, to a wood sculptor father. He arrived in Paris with his family at a young age, in 1882. He began by training in wood carving before continuing his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts and the École des Arts Décoratifs. In the early 1920s, he bought an old lighting factory specializing in bronze lighting articles, the Maës, Damon & Cie company, 17 rue Saint Gilles in Paris. Lamp sold without lampshade, careful shipping throughout France, shipping costs included.
