Electrified Celadon Oil Lamp, Napoleon III Period – Second Half Of The 19th Century
This electrified celadon porcelain oil lamp is a remarkable piece dating from the second half of the 19th century, during the reign of Napoleon III. It perfectly embodies the eclectic and refined taste of that era. The lamp's body takes the form of a celadon porcelain urn, its pale green hue reminiscent of the delicacy of Asian ceramics. It is subtly decorated with translucent white flowers in low relief, adding a touch of poetry and refinement to the whole. These floral motifs seem almost to float on the surface, capturing the light with discreet grace. The scroll and foliage ornamentation is crafted from finely chased gilt bronze, particularly at the base and neck of the lamp. The gilt bronze adds a visual warmth that contrasts elegantly with the coolness of the celadon. The frosted glass globe at the top is adorned with curved grooves that gently diffuse the light, creating subtle reflections and accentuating the lamp's antique charm when lit.
