Depicting an abstract work painted in 1970.
André Vereecken, 1932-2017. At 16, he trained in jewelry making at the Academy of Fine Arts in Saint-Nicolas, where he won first prize. He then worked as a carpenter. At 27, he re-enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Saint-Nicolas to study painting and engraving under Georges Fonteyn and Romain Malfliet. In 1962, he was hired by the city of Saint-Nicolas as a technical and artistic assistant for the museums, while continuing his art studies independently in his studio. He analyzed the great masters he admired and developed his own style through painting, experimentation, and practice. A versatile artist, he worked in painting, pastel, drawing, engraving, clay and metal sculpture, as well as assemblage and collage. He created a fantastical world full of pictorial improvisations where reality and imagination playfully and spontaneously intertwine. He painted whimsical and bizarre forms and distortions, intertwining signs, symbols, and strange beings. Although his first solo exhibition did not take place until 1969, he participated in over one hundred exhibitions up until 2016. His works are held at the Saint-Nicolas Museum. He is a listed artist in the Arto and Piron art directories. Listed on Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc...
