"Emile Louis Mathon, Dieppe Le Pollet, Painting, Rue Des 3 Marmots"
Interesting painting by Emile Louis Mathon, depicting a demolished section of the Pollet district in Dieppe. Inscribed on the back of the canvas: "The street of the 'marmots' in Pollet (Dieppe), demolished in 1884-1885." Signed and with a cartouche bearing the painter's name on the frame. Original frame in fair condition: regilded, some losses and damage, particularly at the top (see photos). A beautiful street scene with plenty of activity and figures, including women at work and children. A clothesline crosses the street high above, from one window to the other. The composition is framed in perspective, with a lovely treatment of light. Dimensions without frame: 73.5 x 61 cm
