Biography:
Henry MALFROY (1895/1944)
Henry Malfroy was a French painter born on January 15, 1895, in Martigues, Bouches-du-Rhône. He apprenticed at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under his father, Charles Malfroy, with whom he is often confused.
He exhibited regularly in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français and the Salon des Indépendants until 1934.
He painted the coasts and ports of Bouches-du-Rhône and Var, Venice and Paris, as well as the banks of the Seine, but above all, Martigues, his stronghold, then called the "Venice of Provence," located on the edge of the Étang de Berre and the Caronte Canal, connecting the lagoon to the Mediterranean, with the port of Martigues—landscapes that inspired many artists at the time.
Thus, Following in the footsteps of Raymond Allègre, Decanis, and Felix Ziem, his luminous works with their vibrant colors are particularly sought after on the art market, and his canvases depicting Mediterranean ports fetch high prices.
