Bronze Garden Bust, Signed Micheli 1859
Artist: Micheli
Large bronze bust (60 cm high), possibly representing Julius Caesar, signed on the left side: Micheli and dated June 1, 1859. On the right side is the name of the foundry: Charnod Paris 1859. It is probably by the German sculptor Aurelio Micheli or Karl Aurelius, active in the second half of the 19th century, author of numerous busts of emperors and famous men of his time and of antiquity, some of which are in the Bamberg Museum in Germany. It was on a stone base in the garden of a bourgeois residence in southern Gironde, sold as is, after 167 years exposed to the elements, the original patina has obviously disappeared, but perhaps this is what gives it a certain charm.
