"Canvas Painted With A Reed Pen - India For Persia - 18th Century"
Rare Indian Textile Painted with a Reed Pen - India for Persia - Late 18th/Early 19th Century. A very beautiful Indian textile painted with a reed pen, block-printed, and then hand-brushed in India in the late 18th or early 19th century. Quilted in the 19th century with a later print, this beautiful piece has nonetheless survived to the present day. Technically very accomplished and probably produced in one of the best Indian workshops (Coromandel Coast?), the design of this textile, with its borders adorned with Indian flowers, central medallions, and spandrels, is typical of its period and its destination: the Persian market. There are a few minor weaknesses in the textile and some small repairs.
