Paul Jourdy, French painter born on December 17, 1805 in Dijon and died on October 28, 1856 in Paris, Pastel portrait of Madame Marie Madelaine Joséphine Anais Labat (1805-1858) signed P. Jourdy on the right, label of Eugène Foulquier in Bordeaux on the back of the frame, giltwood frame with beadwork, 70 x 60 cm. Biography: Paul Jourdy was the son of Jean-Baptiste Jourdy and Philiberte Cornemillot. He entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris on October 30, 1820. A student of Guillaume Guillon Lethière and Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, Paul Jourdy won the 2nd Prix de Rome in 1828 and the Prix de Rome in 1834.[1] He exhibited portraits and history paintings at the Salon from 1831 to 1853. In 1841, he married Émilie Alexandrine Duché[2]. He died at his home, No. 1 Cité Gaillard in Paris, at the age of 50[3]. He is buried in Montmartre Cemetery[4].
