"Beautiful Chest: 4 Gothic Facade Panels, And 2x2 Linenfold Panels On The Sides, 15th Century"
Coming from a castle in Cantal, this beautiful carved chest in stained oak, of measured proportions, offers a beautiful facade adorned with four beautiful panels in the flamboyant Gothic style, two by two, wonderfully carved and preserved, and on the sides "napkin fold" panels in pairs framing like those of the beautiful facade. It rests on solid, straight feet at the ends of the vertical supports. This remarkably constructed piece of furniture features a tongue-and-groove top and a carefully crafted back panel made of well-joined, solid parquet panels. Robust wrought-iron hinges support the beautiful, beveled top. Gothic furniture is rarely found, as the panels were often repurposed for decorative purposes, as can be seen at the Cluny Museum in Paris. Generously proportioned without being overly imposing, this lovely chest from the first half of the 15th century, in good condition (recently treated) and with minimal damage, possesses all the qualities of a functional and decorative piece for an entryway, living room, bedroom, etc. In short, a piece that would be a perfect fit for collectors of authentic pieces from the French High Period.
