Object description :

"Egyptian New Kingdom Scaraboid Pendant With Human Head."
Amulet: faience. H. 24 mm
New-Kingdom, Dynasty 19th-20th
Mounting: gold (18k), yellow spinel
Total weight 1,70 gr

This remarkable scaraboid amulet features a human face with Nubian features, a precious testimony to ancient Egypt's cultural exchanges with the kingdoms of Nubia.
The reverse is finely engraved with richly symbolic iconography: the lioness goddess Sekhmet, accompanied by the papyriform sceptre, the hieroglyph "p," and the hes vase. The composition rests upon the "nb" sign, meaning "Lord" or "Master."

In the Egyptian pantheon, Sekhmet embodied the Eye of Ra, daughter and protector of the sun god. An ambivalent deity, she held the power both to unleash plagues and to heal the afflicted. This amulet thus provided its wearer with powerful protection against illness and malevolent forces.

Enhanced by a contemporary 18-carat gold mount and crowned with a luminous yellow spinel, this three-thousand-year-old treasure becomes an exceptional jewel—a bridge between Antiquity and the present day.
