Gilbert PRIVAT (1892-1969)
Sculptor, painter, watercolorist, G. Privat used various materials such as marble, bronze, terracotta, plaster, slate, porcelain, etc.
Inspired by his father, a wood sculptor, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse and then at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Second Grand Prix de Rome in 1921. He exhibited regularly in various Parisian salons and at the International Exposition in Paris in 1937.
Appointed Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honor in 1948. He received the Croix de Guerre 1914-1918 in 1916 and the Médaille Militaire in 1918. He received numerous public commissions for monuments, building decorations, fountains, and bas-reliefs for the cities of Lille, Paris, Bordeaux, Malakoff, the Franco-American Museum at the Château de Blérancourt, Roubaix, and others. He worked with the Sèvres National Porcelain Manufactory on his bisque porcelain pieces.
Mrs. Privat bequeathed her personal collection to the Musée des Années 30 in Boulogne-Billancourt and Soulac museum dedicated to him.
