Joan Miró (1893-1983) 18. The Migratory Bird
Plate 18, from Constellations (Cramer, vol. 58), 1959. Color stencil on laid paper, after a gouache by the artist, for the artist's book Constellations, with a text by André Breton, published by Pierre Matisse, New York, printed by Mourlot, Paris. Full sheet, framed. Dimensions: 43.4 x 35.7 cm. Joan Miró
Constellations (stencil series) Joan Miró's Constellations series constitutes one of the poetic pinnacles of 20th-century art. Originally created between 1940 and 1941 as gouaches on paper, this series of works profoundly marked the history of art with its visual language of signs, stars, floating figures, and cosmic rhythms. To disseminate this work to a wider audience, a series of original stencils was produced under the direct supervision of Joan Miró, in collaboration with his publishers and the Pierre Matisse Gallery in New York, which was his principal dealer in the United States.
These editions are not mere reproductions: they are true graphic works, conceived with respect for Miró's spirit and artistic vision. Only 250 copies.
