Protestant Chalice And Paten In Silver, United Kingdom, Circa 1880
A neo-Gothic style chalice made entirely of silver, decorated with the engraved monogram IHS surrounded by stylized florets. It rests on a multi-ogee base formed of six lobes. The hexagonal stem features a ribbed torus knot adorned with six lozenge-shaped knobs, each decorated with four chased leaves. The cup is slightly conical, rounded at the base. The rim is engraved with a Latin inscription. The interior is gilt. This chalice retains its original silver paten, decorated with double fillets, an engraved Latin inscription, leaves, and a Greek cross on the rim. In the center is a depression in the shape of a six-leaf clover and the floral IHS monogram. The reverse is engraved with the inscription: Church of St Thomas, Arcachon… 1881.
