"Pair Of Louis XVI Style Columns"
Pair of Louis XVI style columns in carved wood, painted beige and gray, adorned with gilt bronze depicting Silenus. First half of the 19th century. The columns are pierced to conceal the electrical wiring for chandeliers, for example. Silenus is a figure from Greek mythology. He is a member of the entourage of the god Dionysus, whom he raised and tutored. Like Dionysus, he is associated with wine and revelry and is depicted as a jolly man with a potbelly. Here, he is at the center of the composition. Dimensions: Height 127 cm. Diameter of the top 20 cm. Diameter at the base 32 cm.
