"A Ceramic Vase By Charles Grébert,"
A ceramic vase by Charles Grébert, with a small chip to note. Gréber: Master Ceramist of Art Nouveau, January 1, 1853 - January 1, 1935, Beauvais, France. A renowned ceramist, Charles Gréber left a lasting mark on Beauvais ceramics and developed the family business, founded by his father in 1870. In 1899, Charles took over the family factory. In addition to architectural cladding ceramics, he developed a specialty that would also become the emblem of the Grébert company: the use of flamed stoneware. Like an alchemist in search of the philosopher's stone, he invented a glazing and firing process that gave his works a unique palette of colors and patterns, marked by the brilliance of the fire. He thus brought to life a ceramic universe where each piece seems to be the reflection of a star, the trace of a comet, the wake of a galaxy.
