Oil on copper depicting the portrait of the Virgin and Child, after the famous icon "Salus Populi Romani"* in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, dating from the 18th century. This painting is in good overall condition, in its original state. Note: restoration at the bottom (it has been enlarged), some minor damage and paint losses, wear consistent with age, see photos. *The Salus Populi Romani (in English: "Safeguarding the Roman People") is an icon depicting the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus that has been the object of particular devotion since at least the 13th century. It is located in the Pauline (or Borghese) Chapel of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. According to tradition, it is attributed to the Evangelist Saint Luke. Dimensions: 19.5 cm x 15 cm.
