A bombé commode stamped Jean-Charles ELLAUME. Paris, Louis XV period, circa 1755-1770.

A beautiful bombé commode with a curved front and sides, opening with five drawers in three rows with exposed rails. It is richly veneered with amaranth and satinwood marquetry, arranged in friezes and borders, highlighting the elegance of its flowing lines. It rests on a red marble slab veined with gray, with a corbelled edge, perfectly complementing the contoured profile of the piece.
The gilt and chased bronze mounts include remarkable rocaille drawer pulls, keyhole escutcheons, corner mounts, sabots, and clasps, attesting to the quality of craftsmanship of Parisian workshops in the mid-18th century. The front retains its four original keyhole escutcheons.

The frame is made of oak and spruce.

The piece bears the stamp J.C. ELLAUME on the front right and left uprights, along with the hallmark of the Parisian master cabinetmakers' guild.

Jean-Charles Ellaume (1714-1814)
Jean-Charles Ellaume, also known as Ellaume or Allaume, was admitted as a master cabinetmaker in Paris on November 6, 1754. Established on Rue Traversière in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, he was among the renowned cabinetmakers of the Louis XV period. His work is distinguished by the quality of its marquetry and bronze mounts, as well as by the elegance of its curved forms.

Several of his works are now held in public collections and historic residences, notably at the Lambinet Museum in Versailles, the Château de Morlanne, the Château de Vendeuvre, the Château de Gizeux, the Museum of Fine Arts in Bernay, and Wawel Royal Castle in Krakow.
