A Louis XVI period marquetry drop-front secretary desk, stamped Marchand and JME, opening to reveal a drawer in the frieze above a drop-front opening to reveal four small drawers, and below, a chest and two compartments. The front and sides are decorated with a frieze and bronze rosettes at the top and marquetry panels in the "à la reine" style on lemonwood backgrounds with rosewood frames. Rich mounts and gilt bronze. Original mercury gilding. Breccia marble top.
