French Symbolist School (c. 1900) - Water Lily Fishers
Oil on canvas. Original canvas. A languorous river landscape, whose gentle aquatic rhythm evokes familiar themes from late 19th-century French poetry. Lulled by the twilight, two lovers, aboard a swaying dugout canoe, gather water lilies on the tranquil riverbed, exchanging sweet nothings perhaps inspired by the verses of Sully-Prudhomme. The exquisite brushwork, characterized by elongated strokes imbued with the soft aura of varnish, contributes to extending the metaphysical dimension of the composition in arpeggios of oil paint. Dimensions of the image without frame: 54 x 42 cm / 74 x 62 cm with a unique frame, custom-made in the early 20th century.
