18th-century Wall Tapestry

Large example of an 18th-century French tapestry. In the Netherlands, we often call these tapestries "Gobelins," but this is not a generic term for all antique tapestries. Gobelin was simply a well-known tapestry manufacturer. Our example comes from France and dates from the 18th century. It depicts a large, exotic garden with many trees and plants. A castle is visible in the background. In good condition. Colors still very vibrant. Magnificent shades of blue, green, yellow, and gold. Signs of wear consistent with age and typical for tapestries of this period. A few holes due to centuries of exposure and an old candle burn in several places.
