A charming 19th-century wash drawing on cardboard depicting a peasant with his chickens. This wash drawing in shades of gray is signed by Edouard Mathurin MAGE, a painter from the Périgord region, born in Vergt. His year of birth is unknown, but he is known to have died in 1904. This wash drawing demonstrates great virtuosity. There is a fine article about the artist in the Bénézit dictionary, and the Périgueux Museum holds three of his paintings. Good overall condition, cardboard slightly yellowed. Dimensions: 38 x 30 cm, unframed.
