Japan, Meiji Era, Late 19th Century - Miniature Okimono Depicting A Junk
A charming and exquisitely fine miniature depicting a Japanese junk, crafted from chased metal with gilt highlights, the work of meticulous craftsmanship. The junk is represented with a wealth of detail: a chased roof imitating vegetal weave, twisted sail ropes, a finely textured sail evoking canvas, a small figure on board, an oar, a rudder, and a finial pennant bearing a two-character Japanese hallmark, most likely a signature or workshop mark. The piece is complete, perfectly legible despite its tiny scale, and testifies to the remarkable skill of late 19th-century Japanese workshops specializing in okimono and decorative display objects. The metal is possibly silver (hallmarks are present), but this cannot be definitively confirmed. The object is uncleaned and retains its original patina. Dimensions: approximately 5 x 6 cm. Weight: approximately 7 g. Condition: very good. A rare decorative collector's item, due to its size, quality of execution and the presence of a Japanese hallmark.
