The Crystal Staircase, Lacquer Inkwell, Kangxi Porcelain And Gilt Bronze. Signed
A very rare inkwell signed "L'Escalier de Cristal" on a foot. It comprises a gilt bronze frame, a lacquered tray decorated with birds, and a Kangxi period (1662-1722) Chinese porcelain libation cup, which serves as the inkwell (traces of ink stains remain inside). It was common in the 19th century to use antique Chinese porcelain for mounting on decorative pieces. The inkwell is in good overall condition, with minor damage to the lacquered tray (see photos), mainly on the back, but without any significant impact. There is a tiny chip on the rim of the libation cup, and some wear to the gilding. The piece is of very high quality and in excellent condition. Dimensions: maximum length: 29.5 cm, maximum width: 20.5 cm. Cup: height 6.5 cm, width 9.5 cm
