Comtoise Clock In Fir Wood – Late 18th / Early 19th Century
A beautiful Comtoise clock in fir, late 18th – early 19th century, presented in its original solid fir case, typical of regional production in Franche-Comté. The case, simple and elegant, consists of a straight glazed top, a curved shaft, and a base with an overhanging plinth.
The wood has a beautiful antique patina, attesting to its authenticity.
The white enamel dial with Roman numerals is signed Cabuz, a clockmaker active in eastern France at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.
It features period cut-steel hands. The repoussé brass pediment, richly decorated with floral and foliate motifs, is finely crafted and well-preserved.
The iron and brass mechanism is equipped with a verge escapement, striking the hours and half-hours, and a lyre-shaped pendulum, characteristic of this period.
A complete and harmonious clock, serviced by a watchmaker in Senlis. Good overall condition.
