A "thousand-faced" Fan In A Case. Paper, Lacquered Wood, Wood And Glass… Canton, China.

A "thousand-faced" fan in a case. Paper, lacquered wood, wood, and glass… Canton, China, late Qing dynasty (1644-1912) and later.
It shows some defects and damage.
The case contains a paper fan decorated with a painting depicting a court scene with richly dressed oriental figures, framed by a border with architectural elements and other objects. The ribs, made of lacquered wood with gilt details, feature floral motifs and, again, another courtly garden scene with pavilions and figures. This type of fan was made in China for export to Europe and was very popular in the 19th century.
