Oil on canvas depicting the Forum Boarium in Rome with the Temple of Hercules Victor, long mistakenly called the Temple of Vesta, and the Bizzacheri Fountain, built in 1717 after a design by the architect Carlo Bizzacheri. The painting is signed in the lower left, but the signature is illegible. It is by a Grand Tour painter who immortalized this charming corner of the Eternal City in the first half of the 19th century, when Rome was not yet the capital of Italy and pastoral scenes like the one in our painting reflected reality. Giltwood frame from the same period.
