A pair of covered Hirado ceramic pots in the shape of seashells, each decorated with small details depicting various types of seafood. Highly realistic, the set is painted in shades of brown and blue.
Hirado is a port located on the island of Kyushu, in the former province of Hizen (present-day Nagasaki), which experienced particularly flourishing trade with Korea in the 17th century. As a result, many Korean artisans settled there and established pottery workshops where they produced exquisitely crafted pieces, characterized notably by the use of cobalt blue. In the 19th century, numerous Hirado ceramic objects were produced for the European market.
