"18th Century Regence Dauphiné Crossbow Chest Of Drawers"
A beautiful Regency commode in light Dauphiné walnut. It features a double-arched front, opening to three drawers fitted with period bronze "valet" handles; original escutcheons and locks. The carved crossbar has a finial decorated with an acanthus clasp. The rounded and molded uprights are carved with foliage and terminate in a sabot typical of Grenoble production. The sides have a gendarme's hat shape, and the rear upright has a rebate. It has a beautiful, wide-set top. The frame and back panel are made of softwood. The piece is comparable to the work of the renowned Hache workshop in Grenoble. Minor restorations consistent with age and use. First half of the 18th century.
