"Baudin Paris Automaton Clock 1815"
Late Empire period clock, 1815, Baudin in Paris, clockmaker listed in Tardy (see photo no. 12). Subject representing the soap bubble blower, all attributes are present and original. Wire movement serviced by clockmaker with pendulum and key, a butterfly automaton system linked to the escapement anchor causing the butterfly to oscillate from left to right in time with the ticking. Mercury-gilt bronze clock, shells and antique-style basin, superb frieze, Cupid holding a torch, reclining on a garland of flowers carried by two magnificent butterflies.
