"Directory Bronze Clock, Cupid Stings The Butterfly"
A beautiful Directory clock in gilded bronze. This splendid pendulum symbolically revisits the myth of Cupid and Psyche; while Cupid is depicted with a bow and arrow, Psyche is symbolized by a butterfly. On the base, a bas-relief depicts Cupid's chariot drawn by butterflies. The entire clock features extraordinary, beautifully preserved gilding, as well as the exceptionally well-crafted engraving, as can be seen in the photos. The shape of the base dates the piece to the Directoire period, just before the Empire.
