18th-century Chinese Porcelain (grisaille) Plate From The East India Company
A Chinese porcelain plate, known as a Compagnie des Indes plate. 18th century, Qianlong period (circa 1745). Grisaille decoration. This is a mythological subject. The goddess Juno holds the scepter of royalty in one hand and the reins of her chariot of peacocks, sacred birds, in the other. The rim is decorated with four cartouches: two depicting a landscape and two a bird on a branch. This model is illustrated in F. and N. Hervouët's book "La Porcelaine des Compagnies des Indes à décor occidental" under reference 13.3. It is classified AR for Fairly Rare.
