Cabinet Of Curiosities - Collection Of Seashells In A Glass Case
A collection of seashells for use in a Cabinet of Curiosities, presented in small compartments, each identified by its Latin name on a label. The collection is displayed in a glass-fronted box from the Museum of Natural History in Paris, made of cardboard covered in paper to resemble leather. The box opens to allow the shells to be admired under a magnifying glass. A 20th-century piece in the 19th-century style. Precursors to the Museum of Natural History, Cabinets of Curiosities, from the 16th to the 18th centuries, were places where a multitude of rare or unusual objects representing the three kingdoms of nature (animal, vegetable, and mineral) were collected. A beautiful set, ideal for complementing a 19th-century neoclassical decor. This box is from a series of four, which can be found in our gallery. Dimensions: 39 x 25.4 x 5.5 cm
