Raymond Besse (1871–1969) Meaux (circa 1950) oil on canvas 50 x 61 cm 64 x 75 cm framed. Raymond Besse arrived in Paris in 1916. He participated for the first time in the Salon des Indépendants in 1923. He subsequently participated in numerous other salons, including the Salon d'Automne. He frequently depicted the northern suburbs of Paris, Saint-Ouen, Montmartre, and Clichy, as he enjoyed painting these areas, and his paintings bear witness to life in working-class neighborhoods during the first half of the 20th century. Raymond Besse also produced many works on the themes of Normandy and the Loire Valley. He spent his final years in the Loir-et-Cher region and died in 1969.
