The sculpture is signed underneath "Lenci, made in Italy."
This model was created by Elena Scavini for the Lenci factory (Ludus Est Nobis Constanter Industria).
Founded in Turin in 1919, Lenci began by crafting highly realistic felt dolls using a patented manufacturing process: the face was pressed into molds to compete with and democratize the fragile and expensive porcelain dolls. Under the influence of the owner's German wife, Elena König-Scavini, who had studied fine arts, Lenci ventured into the production of decorative ceramic figurines.
After starting with its own designs that celebrated the emancipated woman, it selected and brought together numerous talented artists who explored a wide range of themes and styles: Art Deco, Romanticism, dance, circus, animals, and more.
The factory closed its doors in 2002
