Pewter Sugar Shaker - Mulhouse, 18th Century

Rare large pewter sugar shaker in a baluster shape with a footed base, decorated with three gadrooned friezes. The screw-on stopper, topped with an acorn, is pierced with hearts, spades, diamonds, and trefoils arranged in rosettes.
Maker's mark: angel holding a palm / BW / FIN.
Height: 19.5 cm.
MULHOUSE, early 18th century.
In perfect condition.
Alsatian maker's marks depicting an angel holding a palm are all from Mulhouse. This unidentified maker's mark has already been found on a ewer, along with that of Philippe II DOLLFUS, active in Mulhouse from 1718 to 1754. It is therefore very plausible that this BW master preceded Philippe II Dollfus.
Like large earthenware, glass, or porcelain sugar shakers, those made of pewter are very rare and sought after. To my knowledge, this is the only pewter example of this type of object from this Alsatian center.
