Louis XV Style Writing Table In Rosewood And Amaranth Marquetry, 18th Century
An elegant Louis XV style writing table in rosewood marquetry on an amaranth ground, mounted on an oak frame, Parisian work dating from the 18th century. Its shaped top, inlaid with an interlaced pattern, is framed by a molded gilt-bronze border with a recessed front. It opens with a side drawer with compartments in the apron, which is also curved and shaped. It rests on four cabriole legs with drops and terminating in gilt-bronze sabots. This table is remarkable for its sinuous lines, the quality of its bronze mounts, and delicate details such as the angle of the legs, where the horizontal veneer is slightly recessed.
In good condition, with restorations consistent with age and use, a refinished French polish, a later key, and slight wear to the mercury gilding on the bronze mounts.
