Patinated Bronze - Marianne The Republic - Model After Théodore Doriot
Patinated bronze bust of Marianne. Height: 31.5 cm, Width: 18 cm. Model after the sculptor Théodore Doriot, a student of François Rude, and dates from the very beginning of the Third Republic. It powerfully and solemnly embodies the republican ideal of this foundational period. The head is adorned with a headband bearing the inscriptions "Honneur" (Honor) and "Patrie" (Fatherland), surmounted by a crown composed of oak leaves and ears of wheat, closed by a star, symbols of strength, prosperity, and national unity. The torso is clad in a cuirass partially covered by drapery in the antique style, rendered with great finesse. The collar features a series of medallions representing the activities that the Republic intended to promote: agriculture, commerce, fine arts, education, justice, science, industry, and the navy. The base is marked with the letters "RF", separated by a set of republican symbols including the fasces, scales, sword, and hand of justice. Patina from age, monogrammed JM on the rear terrace
