"Large Portrait Of Napoleon I In His Coronation Robes"
A very large and impressive portrait of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in his coronation robes, adorned with ermine and velvet with gold brocade, holding his imperial sceptre, wearing a laurel wreath, the Legion of Honour around his neck, and his sword at his belt. Against a red velvet background, we glimpse part of the imperial throne and the orb surmounted by a cross of the Kings of France on a velvet cushion with gold thread. The portrait, with its imposing presence, is framed by a border with an imperial motif and a pediment featuring cornucopias and a majestic eagle. (The pediment is a later addition and can be easily removed.) This work is an oil painting on paper from the 19th century, after François Gerard. It was recently mounted on a panel to level it and ensure its long-term stability. Dimensions without frame: 96 x 116 cm Dimensions framed without pediment: 104 x 124 cm Dimensions with pediment: 104 x 150 cm The frame has a secure hanging system and has been reinforced with brackets.
