André Cholet was a painter from southwestern France. He entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1830 and studied under the painter Thomas. He exhibited portraits and small genre scenes of the countryside at the Paris Salon between 1833 and 1849. In 1841, he exhibited two paintings: "A Harvester from the Bordeaux Region" (Museum of Art and History of Melun) and "A Little Milkmaid," a work of similar subject and style, which is probably our painting.
