Oil on panel 33x41 cm "The Skier in the Mountains" Circa 1940
Signed lower left
Born in Cerbère in the Pyrénées-Orientales, Raoul Guiraud is considered the great luminist painter of Béziers, which dedicated a retrospective to him in 2008.
A student of Léon Lhermitte and Jean Paul Laurens, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1924.
He painted his region extensively, notably beautiful views of Collioure and some Orientalist canvases.
His very personal treatment of light is evident in this painting with its unusual subject: a skier (perhaps in the Pyrenees?) whose pose and movement are particularly lively and well rendered.
