Kodak Gift No. 1 A Art Deco Vintage Folding Camera
Artist: Walter Doewin Teague
This folding camera and its Art Deco lacquered case, featuring brown and red tones enhanced with silver trim, are in exceptional condition. The camera body is covered in brown leather. The bellows are original and also made of leather in the same color. This special version of the Kodak Junior No. 1 A Pocket was released for Christmas 1930 for the American market. Kodak commissioned designer Walter Dorwin Teague to redesign the front panel, which was usually plain. Teague then created a geometric pattern inspired by modernist painters such as Mondrian, reflecting the convergence of Art and Industry. This Art Deco design is similar to that of the Beau Brownie. In a 1930 advertisement in the New York Times, Kodak described the camera as "one of the most beautiful Kodaks ever offered."
